Muscat Blends: South Africa
In South Africa, varietal Muscats are used to make charming dessert wines but the grapes are also used as blends in table wines.
The use of Muscat grapes in blended South African wines is not standard practice but the following blends have been identified:
• Sauvignon Blanc, Colombard, Hanepoot
• Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Blanc, Semillon, Rhine Riesling, Muscat Ottonel
• Chenin Blanc, Hanepoot
• Gewurztraminer, Bukettraube, Hanepoot, Muscat Ottonel
• Gewurztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Muscat d’ Alexandrie
• Sauvignon Blanc, Colombard, Muscat de Frontignac
• Muscat d’ Alexandrie, Chenin Blanc
