Muscat Wines of Greece

Wine has been grown in Greece for centuries. The Greek island of Samos has a history of wine culture dating back to the third millennium B.C. There is documentation that places Moscato Aspro or the Muscat of Samos grape on the island in the late 1600s.
Muscat of Samos is a sweet wine made from Muscat Blanc a Petits Grains grapes. It is made in a number of different styles: Samos Vin Doux, Samos (Vin Naturellemet Doux) Nectar, Samos Vin Doux Naturel Grand Cru, Samos Anthemis, Holy Communion Wine of Samos.

Other sweet Muscat wines include Muscat of Patras, Muscat of Rio of Patras, Muscat of Cephallonia, Muscat of Rhodes, Muscat of Kefallinia, Muscat of Limnos.

Muscat is also found in Metaxa, a Greek brandy. Savatiano, Sultanina, and Black Corinth grapes are distilled twice and blended with aged Muscat of Samos to create this unique brandy.
